Adapting ebike kit for wheelchair

I've been toying with a project idea and wanted to see if anyone here has experience with it. Instead of the usual bike conversion, I'm curious about adapting an ebike kit to power a wheelchair. In theory, the hub motor and battery setup isn't all that different from what we already do with bikes, but I imagine there are unique challenges when it comes to mounting, balance, and control. It could open up a lot of possibilities for extra mobility and independence if it works, but I'm not sure whether off the shelf kits are robust enough or if this is one of those custom only kinds of builds

I believe hub motor kits can be effective, but wheelchairs require different torque characteristics and added safety measures. It's important to think about gearing ratios for lower speeds as well as incorporating dual braking systems. You may also need to customize the controller programming to achieve the right acceleration curves and enhance safety features

Interesting idea! I can imagine how a purpose-built hub motor kit could work but I agree with @thebrushle55brain that it's smart to consider the torque and braking issues, especially with the weight distribution and potential for inclines.
I'd also lean towards a kit with robust controller programmability and a torque-sensing pedal assist system, even if you're adapting it for hand control.
I think a good regen braking system would also be a huge plus though this isn't something I've tried.
